Karen Prentice DO, FAAP

Dr. Karen Prentice has been working as a general pediatrician in private practice since 1997 and was one of the original doctors who started Great Destinations Pediatrics in 1999 along with our current Office Administrator, Sharlene Fleming. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California, graduating as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. She completed her pediatric internship and residency program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona in 1997. She is a board certified pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (F.A.A.P.).

Dr. Prentice has 2 boys. She enjoys spending time with her family, running half-marathons, biking, experimenting with her organic vegetable garden, and writing. Her first book, called An Apple a Day the Doctor’s Way Dr. Karen’s Nutritional Guide and Cookbook, was published in 2015. She says her passion is helping families achieve wellness through healthy eating, exercise, and healthy life-style choices. She loves writing educational handouts for our office and enjoys meeting patients and their families every other Saturday morning for a nutrition clinic at Where the Garden Grows Medical Clinic.

Dr. Prentice finds joy listening to kids and teens and getting to know them as well as their families. She loves being a pediatrician and feels blessed to be a part of so many family’s lives.

Patient Reviews

Dr. Prentice is an amazing woman. She works hard to ensure healthy children and even harder when they aren't. We have found that she will stand by you through the darkest hours, cry with you and even pray with you and for you. Each family matters to Dr. Prentice and she is very passionate about her little patients. She has caught conditions and found solutions other doctors had missed. She is a doctor who is thinking about your child and researching solutions long after the appointment is over. Now living in another state we still miss our "Dr Princess" a nickname she picked up when our daughter couldn't pronounce Prentice.
